Is anyone here, religious?

Post by Serpent »

If anyone that reads this, is the least bit religious... please help me in praying to whatever God you believe in... Personally, I believe in one God... the creator of all, ..etc... and I plan to do so, myself.. pray, that is.

My grandmother (on my dad's side) was in the hospital today, due to a fall she took last night. She is 78, and doesn't have very strong bones in the first place.. but she goes out to eat, every now and then, with one of my aunts. Last night she took a hard fall, and started bleeding. She was taken to a hospital, in Pomona, California... they found that not only was she internally bleeding, but had broken her hip. Today she had surgery, and that went okay and her hip has begun its healing process.

Here is the problem - due to her weak nature, she had to have anesthesia. For this to work, they put an air tube of sorts, down her throat. After she awoke, and started recovery from the surgery, they went to take the tube out, only to find that she has a huge tumor in her throat. We are now told that she will bleed to death, if they remove the tube. Needless to say, she is in critical care, and we are not sure if she will make it.

It goes without saying, I do not know if I will be in the mood for much gaming in the next couple weeks.... If at all, it will just be something to get my mind off of the horrible situation at hand.

It sounds like her doctors have quite a challenge on their hands. I hope they can rise to the occaision.

Thx....

UPDATE:

Apparently, after the careful removal of this 'tube'... they find the tumor around the area is cancerous, and she now has two options...

1) Do nothing. She is told she will have 3-6 months to live. :(

2) Have an attempt made to get rid of it, which will definately result in her voice box being gone - leaving her with no voice... and live on for undetermined amount of time.. This, of course, in no way, guarantees that the cancer will be gone, since they have no idea how far it has spread so far.

Knowing my grandma...she will pick option #1... but time will tell.

UPDATE:

CAT scans both suck and are eye-opening.. through a scan, they see more tumors in lungs, a clogged artery in the heart, swollen abdomen with some sort of leaky valve (?), and emphezyma (sp?)... I have never known anyone so bad off.

My wife lost her grand mother (fathers side) this past weekend. She couldn't be woken since Friday and she went in her sleep peacefully on Saturday night. She had cancer all throughout her body. Inopperable, untreatable. She knew before Christmas, but didn't tell anyone as not to spoil the season. My wife has since made several trips to Arizona to visit with her. The grandmother went on hospus in January. All they could do was make her comfortable. Which her husband was very reluctant to give her the medication. He still swore that she just needed herbs and prayer, and she would just get better as she always had. She lived in Arizona, but they're having her services here in San Diego. She will be burried this week next to her mother.

Needless to say, I completely sympathize, and can completely relate as well. :( :( :(

Sorry to hear it. My dad died of cancer about 4 years ago, and it's still pretty tough on all of us.

I'll keep you up there in the rotation...

The time has come... my grandmother left us all, last night... at 6:20 PM Pacific time... needless to say I'll be more MIA than not, the next week, as my family and I trek across the country back to California, for the funeral.. which is expected to be either Thursday or Friday....
