Oh Canada
Is it true that if I were to move North to Canada I would be required to show proof of being a resident for 5 years before I could be employed?

Re: Oh Canada
No idea where you got this info from. Get a work visa and you work here all you like. Get landed immigrant status and youre fine too. After a certain number of years as a landed immigrant (10 i think?) you can apply for citizenship.Aide-de-Camp wrote:Is it true that if I were to move North to Canada I would be required to show proof of being a resident for 5 years before I could be employed?

I think it's actually simpler than that... When we moved to Canada for the first time some years ago, we applied for citizenship and they gave it to us as we came in. As such we were granted all the rights of a full Canadian citizen from the get-go: Social Health Insurance, Social Security, Passports, and other things
I've thought about seeking citizenship, myself, in another country, and have considered Canada for some time... This would not only make crossing the US/Canada border a lot simpler than the last time I tried... oh, 10 years ago... (long story, some other time - bottom line, they kicked us out of Canada and said go back to the US so I have only been in Canada long enough to make a u-turn. lol) but it would also give me more options for habitation. I could buy a house there, in addition to the one I am buying in Texas, etc...easier. Though almost anything is possible, it's all easier when you are a citizen, resident, whatever... of that country.

Sorry my USA buddies, but I have absolutley no desire to move to the US. I love my freedom and space.Death_Dealer[CotC] wrote:I would move to Canada if I had a job to go to.

Freedom and space, yes. I ask about work permissions because a few therapists I've worked with recently have moved South from the Great White North.
To make a long story short, running about the states is quite an easy process. Mind you, I have nothing against my Canadian brothers, it just set my mind to wondering.
We have here a conundrum as in order for me to execute enrollment in any Canadian social system I'd need not only to be a resident it seems, but also have the correct forms. Placing all that aside, I have to have all the correct forms. I have to have all the correct forms.
It just seems to me that since the United States is so incredibly backwards in the minds of some, we should raise the standards in the United States, and do what appears to be working very well in Canada. That in order to work you must prove residence and have all the correct forms, if not become a citezin.
Besides, I am trying to collect as much data as I can because I am tired of California. I am tired of cultural diversity. I am tired of things getting out of control, wasted taxes, wasted government programs. I'm just knee deep in it down here. I work in it daily and each day I see the rampant waste and spending on social programs for non-tax payers and others.
So my wife and I are thinking about relocation in some distant future, preparing a contengency of sorts. We have looked at Oregon, Alaska, and Washington State. Western Canada would also look promising provided dual citezinship could be maintained, and I could find work getting into other peoples head.

yes we support dual citizenship.
If you're tired of cultural diversity your only hope Canada-wise is Alberta, its largely white and rather ignorant I find when it comes to other cultures Nearly everywhere else in Canada is very proud about its cultural diversity.
As for wasted taxes and the whole bit, thats all in the perception I suppose. However I would say Canada is relatively good with its money, with the exception of BC -- the province that has been electing crooks to government for decades. heh

1 More Oil flows into the USA from AB than used in Canada, Saudi Arabia 2!
2 The province have privatized just about everything!
3 Ralph Kline the premier has brought this province out of the red and into the black through tight purse strings, commitment and responsibility, and the funds from natural resources (oil) (even if he likes to tip a couple brewskies back)
Anything wrong from that NO! Just the rest of us get a little jealous.
Oh btw, if you have a career that is required in Canada, real easy to get a work permit.
