All on the same spec'd systems nonetheless.
for price point the x800 is better, but speed was better on the 6800GT
"You get what you pay for."
X800 Pro, BTW.
If I'd have had the extra $100 or so, I'd have gone for the nVidia card. I still creamed my card budget, LOL.
It's a nice card, and I like the way it runs Doom.
Speaking of which - I have not been playing it much, and when I do, I clear a few rooms at a time before I get called away. It's kind of a drag to play it that way, but I get to savor the next few rooms. I like using the pistol long-distance on imps and spiders. Unmask, shoot, duck. The chain gun hasn't been used yet, and the neo-"pinkies" are two-shot shotgun kills, just like in the original Doom. I'd love to have the DB-shotty, I'll tell ya. The video disks and stuff I pick up are boring, but the "everything turns red, and you freeze in place when something really creepy is happening" thingy is cool.
I like the visual effects, and the ability to move stuff around. It makes for interesting replay when I move an exploding barrel to right where I know an imp's gonna pop out. Not having secret doors and stuff is weird. All in all, a kewl game.

honestly, if I paid for it, I would've just gotten the X800 like you did...
I still think ATI has crappy rendering of smoke, but it may just be that it seemed that way in DoD, I never tried yours at CS:S
BTW, I haven't seen you playing any CS:S yet, I hope you're getting your practice in or something!

The X800 blows the 9800xt away!
When was the last time you researched video cards? lol

Not to derail the thread or anything but I believe the Doom3 expansion coming out shortly will include such a weapon?

I will actually be upgrading my video card in another six or seven so months to ATI's next wonder, so if anyone is looking for an upgrade around that time I will give you a good deal on my X800 pro, you have to have PCI express though.

ATI ROXORS
I read that too.
ATI renders smoke in Doom just fine. In fact, it kinda pisses me off, because when I use the machine gun, the smoke obscures my sight picture. I like to take my time and get headshots, and that's hard when the smoke gets in my eyes, lol.
No, I've not even loaded HL2. Why? After all the sh!t-storm over hax and the like, I don't even want to get into it until VAC comes on-line and starts working. It's more likely that I'll break down and buy CoD. Since I like BF1942 and DoD so much, those are more likely.
Besides, I suxor in CS. I was always a better DoD player - and I'm hella better at BF1942.

Awesome! I've been looking for more and more CotC that are BF-capable ... ie.. myself, Aide, KD, Red, etc... and now you.
(granted, I think I am the only one I know that has all of the current BF games out... ie.. BF1942 + BFV.. whereas I am pretty sure Red only has BFV, and I think KD only plays BF1942)...

yeah, I don't have any expansion packs other than the free DC, which IS fun nonetheless, but I still don't really care too much for online play. I've gotten pretty good at flying the planes though at least. Choppers on the other hand, forget it!

I think you need rudder pedals, and elevation controls to do it right and to me it's not worth spending that much...

I can fly the choppers fairly well on my LAN, but the lag on the internet makes it too hard.

Yeah, they require a stick and rudder pedals to fly well. If I'd haul out my thrustmaster stuff from waaaaaay back playing Falcon 3.0, I'd have stick, throttle and pedals. There was a game called "Commanche" way back when, and I got to flying that pretty well. Maybe I should polish up my skills in DC. Sounds like I got all the stuff I need (other than the XP drivers for the analog controllers.)
I loving flying with a good pilot, and operating a door gun. If you can keep the pipper on-target, you can brew up a lot of stuff from a ways off.
I also like shooting down Mi-8s with the Bradley 25.
In BF1942, flying rear gunner on a Stuka is fun when some Spit or MiG comes stooging around looking for an easy kill. Let them saddle right up and punch a few right in the spinner. Adios, MFer!
