New PC built.

Post by Rico »

Whew, what a fun time that was.

Build:

i5-750
2 x 4GB 8-8-8-24 1600 DDR3 RAM
Radeon 5870
Asus P7P55D-E Pro mobo
WD 300GB Velociraptor 10k RPM HDD
Corsair H50 CPU cooler
Corsair AX750 PS
Plextor DVD writer, LightScribe
Lian Li B25S Mid-tower case
Win7 Pro 64-bit.
Asus 24.6" LCD monitor (2ms GTG response time)

I had a little bit of a scare putting it together. First power on = no POST. LED on mobo tells me bad processor. Damn - take it all apart to RMA the damn chip? Sigh.

Well, read the mobo tome (a very large instruction manual) to get a little clue before talking on the phone with anyone. Hey, what's this? There are *two* mobo power connections? (Heart slows down.)

Easy POST, W7 takes all of 20 minutes from start to end of updates to install (including Security Center). I is happy. :)

Oh yeah, that second power header threw me off at first also.
But they've been there since the early P4 processors, so I'm pretty used to looking for them at this point.

Glad you got it working though!

Do you have a backup plan in case that single drive fails?

Gonna go SSD for the boot drive come Feb. Secondary drive for most programs will be the 10k drive. Storage will be some cheap 1T drives in some sort of RAID configuration.

Cool, SSD's are quick! If you haven't tried one yet, you will definitely be surprised at the speed difference.
Though if they fail, they sure do fail miserably!
