Windows 7, Steam, Games not running, Fix

Post by Death_Dealer[CotC] »

Just to put it out there. I upgraded to Windows 7 x64. I installed it and all my drivers without a hitch. Installed Steam, no problem. Downloaded all my games fresh including (L4D, Crysis, Torchlight, Fallout 3, Far Cry 2, Dragon Age: Origins, CS:S, COD 4 & 5, STALKER, TF2 and many more) over 30+ games. None of my games would run through Steam. 1 or 2 would run from the *.exe in the installed folder, but that was it. I did several reinstalls of Win 7 and Steam including redownloading my games. Some games would give different errors and others just would never start. Dragon Age: Origins gave a Nvidia Physx error.

Solution ended up being simple. After some playing with different settings and no luck with google searches. I turned off "Steam Community in-game" in Steam settings. And like magic all my games worked. All the different errors were gone. Just wanted to share I'm not the only one who had these problems.

Hope this helps someone because I had no luck searching the internet.

Wow! I wouldn't have guessed it. Perhaps a future Steam Client update will fix that. But it's good that you've find this work around. Thanks for sharing, if I ever run into a friend with Steam on x64 I'll let them know.

Have not played yet to test that, thanks for posting a solution!

The only dumb thing I've found so far, and it's probably fault of sound card manufacturers, quadrophonic sound doesn't work, especially not with Soundblaster drivers. I downloaded some modified Soundblaster drivers that make it work.
