Headed back to NM for a two week hiking adventure with my son on 7/18. I'm about 10 pounds heavier than last time, but still should be ok. Been walking alot, lifting weights. 70 Miles, Up to 12,441 foot elevation. I am so ready to be away from civilization...

Can't you feel our souls ignite
Shedding ever changing colours,
in the darkness of the fading night,
Like the river joins the ocean,
as the germ in a seed grows
We have finally been freed to get back home.

Re: Going back
Don't airplanes usually need those parts to fly?
Wonder what happened to cause the crash?
It just seems like someone would want to recover that stuff for investigation or something. I guess, maybe, it costs to much to take the broken junk off the mountain after the pilots crash.

Re: Going back
Pilot error, bad weather. In happened in 1942, so it has been up there for a long time. Based on the effort to hike up there with 60 lbs on my back, and down the other side, I would say it would not be worth it. I think they took all the important stuff, and left the hulk.
Here is the nearby plaque.
Here is an account of it. There were no walkable trails up the peak at the time (I would argue there still isn't!!)
