I don't currently have win98 installed on any machines,
but try the registry entry for:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services

I didn't think Windows 98 had services! That was previously server technology, NT or Win 2000 wasn't it? It does have background tasks, like the screen saver, spooler. I thought that they were available through the Task Manager though?

I might be partially wrong, I can't find any info on 98 having a GUI, but there maybe a command-level tool for checking the services. Try: http://webtools.live2support.com/windows/sc.php

Like Data, I can't verify that this will work - I don't have a Win 98 box either.

You are probably correct. My information was based on a win32 programming API
book. I just assumed that NT code was included in 98.
