upgrade question - DVD write

Post by Dataspel »

Just upgraded my desktop - will never buy an emachines box again, although at least this
time I was able to save the hard disk. Now I have a DVD writer. Does that mean
I can make copies of my DVDs? What is good software to use for this?

I've been building my own computers since Sound Blaster 16 was the hottest thing back in the 1980's. Good on you for making your own upgrades. Welcome to the world of custom PC building!

DVD copying can be a nightmare with the DVD encryption in the way. Of course it's perfectly legal for you to make your own backup copies of DVD's which you own, it's just difficult. I'll reserve the word of authority for those who know more about the process, but I've used a product in the past called DVD Shrink to make backup copies. (Also to reduce the size of a DVD movie to one 4.7 Gig disk.) (Search Google for the download) It's open source, and free.

DVDfab is an all-in-one suite that'll rip and burn, I use it quite often as it sometimes does the ones that DVD shrink won't.
With DVD Shrink, you need to have Nero installed in order to burn.

I can email DVD Decrypter and DVD shrink 3.2 both are small enough programs. Between these two I have yet to find a DVD i cant burn(backup). DVD Decrypter does just that removes the protection.
