Many of you are aware that I currently serve as the National Chairman of the Board for Operation Homefront (http://www.operationhomefront.net) Operation Homefront is a wonderful charity that provides financial assistance to military families in need around the country. To date, we have raised and distributed more than $15 million to thousands of military families – everything from curing delinquent mortgages, to repairing broken vehicles to buying titanium prosthetic limbs for wounded warriors. We work closely with corporate partners including WalMart, Dollar Tree Stores, Jim Beam Liquors, Major League Baseball and the PGA Golf Tour. I feel honored to be a small part of the success of this outstanding charity.
I have recently become friends with a musician named John Ondrasik, who started the band Five For Fighting. John has sold millions of records and performed all over the world, and he also happens to have a very strong social conscience. John created a charitable website called What Kind of World Do You Want? which allows people to upload videos linked to specific charities and then pays those charities $1 every time someone watches one of the videos in its entirety, up to a sponsored amount.
One of Operation Homefront’s key partners, TriWest Healthcare Alliance, just uploaded a video that features John’s song, Freedom Never Cries, and designates Operation Homefront as the participating charity. This means that every time somebody watches this video, Operation Homefront gets paid $1. TriWest is paying for the first 30,000 views and we are working on additional corporations to sponsor subsequent viewings. John recently performed Freedom Never Cries to a standing room only audience honoring over 40 Medal of Honor recipients at the Reagan Library.
