I miss my COTC buddies !

So I was playing Battlefield Vietnam last night and stumbled ont a couple of 'rule nazi' servers.

It starts off with me choosing the sniper scope rifle. I find enjoyment camping in the brush sniping targets, its not easy when they are moving... but if they stop for a brief second in my arc BAM HEADSHOT. But low and behold I was quickly told NO SNIPERS HERE !

OK... fine I take RPG next round. I dont 'need' the sniper rifle... i just enjoy it. So I'm crawling though the brush and theres 2 guys at the base. BAM I nuke them... immediately after that I'm called a 'SPAWN CAMPING NOOB' lol wtf... the point is to capture flags... and the spawns are on the flags.. thats the game design.. they just had bad luck to spawn recently.

Finally I'm told SWITCH TO BLUE TEAM.... CHANGE TEAM OR ELSE.... LAST WARNING CHANGE TO BLUE TEAM OR BE KICKED.

At this I finally spoke up and asked 1 question "Why ?". They proceed to tell me that the server is blue team only.... red team is bots. L O L !! If I wanted to play vs bots I wouldnt have even bothered to go online.

What a bunch of cheesy rule nazi fags... I left that server and had to hop around a bit before I finally found one that just let me play the damn game.

After all that.... I couldnt help but remember the days where I stood beside my quake camping buddies !! Miss you guys !

I am still playing Quake2 of course. Have not had much
free time recently due to my new and exciting career,
called "Try to keep my job until the kids graduate from college"

Heh.... I only got 1 ex-wife.

Believe me I couldnt afford another !!

I dont have Q2 installed on my computer... I dont know if it would even run under windows XP. Is there still activity on Q2 servers ?? Heck I might throw it on for some nostaligia fun !

I'm tempted at times to try and figure out how to reload Quake with the GLQuake and see how many frames per second I get on my PC... I think it would be hilarious seeing 10,000FPS (joke) remembering the performance on my first Monster3D card...

ahhh memories... I still think Q1 had one of the best soundtracks ever... Trent Reznor kicked ass doing it... too bad he didn't get the chance to do Doom3...

I remember the group being split into sub-groups (legions) and it was all organised pretty well... with a structured training/bootcamp. A graduation (by fire)... server raids.

What does COTC do these days ? Is it still an active stuctured presence ?

Still structured, but most of us have less time to play.

Two kids have me busy, 10:00 comes around and I'm crashing. I'm an old fart.
