Happy Thanksgiving!

Our friends that were supposed to come over tonight got the flu, so we are 4 short on guests and mega turkey in the oven!

Can't you feel our souls ignite
Shedding ever changing colours,
in the darkness of the fading night,
Like the river joins the ocean,
as the germ in a seed grows
We have finally been freed to get back home.

BEN FELLER, Associated Press Writer Wed Nov 22, 9:12 PM ET

WASHINGTON — He was going to pardon the National Thanksgiving Turkey anyway, but
President Bush figured he really owed the bird this time. His dog had just scared the stuffing out of it.

Bush spared the turkey — named "Flyer" in an online vote — during a Rose Garden ceremony on Wednesday. The backup bird, "Fryer," was also pardoned but nowhere to be seen on this raw day.

The president explained that his Scottish Terrier, Barney, got involved this year. The presidential dog typically gets his exercise by chasing a soccer ball around the Rose Garden.

"He came out a little early, as did Flyer," Bush said. "And instead of chasing the soccer ball, he chased the bird. And it kind of made the turkey nervous. See, the turkey was nervous to begin with. Nobody's told him yet about the pardon I'm about to give him."

Bush announced that the birds would be sent off to Disneyland in California to be the honorary grand marshals of a Thanksgiving Day Parade, just like their predecessors a year ago.

At one point, Bush moved in for a closer look at Flyer, a well-behaved bird raised in Missouri. He petted the turkey's head and back before inviting a couple dozen Girl Scouts to come up and join him.

"It's a fine looking bird, isn't it?" Bush said.

The popular pardon ceremony dates to the days of President Harry Truman in 1947.

I'm sorry, pardoning the turkeys?

Aren't pardons for, IDK, people that commited, or may not have commited, any crimes the president doesn't want them going down for. What'd the turkey do? Trespass government property? GG illogical White House, GG

It's a tradition. Pardoning the turkey spares it's life. Kind of a joke...

All turkeys should be pardoned:

If there's anything as American as a slice of apple
pie, it's a turkey dinner. It's the centerpiece of
Thanksgiving and the cornerstone of festive dinners
and lunchbox sandwiches everywhere. As a matter of
fact, the turkey is such a part of American culture
that Benjamin Franklin lobbied for it to be the
national bird! Happily, cooler heads prevailed.

America loves turkey, so if you're a turkey farmer,
you want to produce as much turkey meat as you can.
Specifically white breast meat, which Americans favor
over dark meat. Enter selective breeding. In a feat
that would impress even a Beverly Hills plastic
surgeon, farmers have been able to significantly
increase the size of the average turkey breast. Not
with silicone or saline, but just by breeding the
turkeys with the most breast meat. In this case the
plan worked almost too well. Male turkeys now have
such large breasts that they cannot successfully mount
females. Their giant chests get in the way! This
renders them completely unable to mate and, as a
result, farmers have had to step in. Every
Thanksgiving drumstick, turkey sandwich, or turkey pot
pie that you eat comes from a turkey that was created
with artificial insemination. Selective breeding has
given us the big-breasted turkeys we need to satisfy
our national hunger for white meat and, in the
process, completely eliminated turkey sex.

Fun fact?
