check it out...

It's WWII on 50% scale. you can go from berlin to paris to holland without 'loading' a new level. As you kill more people you get more rank and weapons etc..
You can try and lone ranger it but you really need a team to succeed. It's aide's dream come true as far as tactics. There's a 14 day free trial (I think I have a 30 day trial around somewhere) and it may not appeal to some of you (no crosshair) but it's pretty cool. Can be a grunt, drive armor, float a boat or do dog fighting. the pace can be much slower than the normal fps games you're used to, then again you could spawn into a CP that's getting pounded by the enemy...

It's like DOD for big kids. :)

lemmie know if you play it or are considering it. I'm on almost every night..

Very confusing though, at least for me. What do I start with first? Do I download the latest update, full install, and playgate? Or some combination thereof?

Also, I don't see a demo anywhere?

OMG, give me a break. I want the 30 day trial, only, and they ask for credit card info?

Its to make sure that people trying the demo are people that are even capable of purchasing the full game.

They dont charge unless you renew after the trial expires.

I think that it goes hand in hand that having a computer capable of running the game means you have enough money to buy the game (eventually, at the least). I wonder what these companies are really fishing for with the credit card info in trial versions.

$0.02

You shouldn't assume that.. many minors have access to their parents computer and may be fishing around for free games to try out. Someone in that situation would use the company's resources by playing the trial, but would never pay to play later.

Also, aside from bandwidth and server-load concerns.. theyre trying to maintain a mature community in that game and having a lot of minors flooding in for a free trial wouldn't help that atmosphere.

Aide - Download the full version, playgate is included in the d/l. After you get the playgate set up and an account created, use the icon on the desktop to launch the game.

INFORMATION DUMP
lots of good info here:
http://www.thetrainer.info/

You will configure your keys first. Start with infantry. Vehicles are easy but you will want a joystick and you will want to get used to the game first, the best way is to pick up a Kar or Enfield. When you are configuring your key options, you will see that you can configure "INFANTRY" and you can also configure every weapon within infantry (SMG, LMG, Gren, Sapper...) Your best bet is to configure INFANTRY as this will translate down to all of the sub classes. Later, you can configure individual classes as you see fit.

Don't bother with NAVY yet, there's no sea battles happening tht often and starting out you would want to go with a group.

Don't bother flying. 1, you must have a joystick. 2, it needs 800 buttons. Actualy your keyboard can compensate for a lot of the buttons, but you have all the adjustments of a real plane (trim flaps, prop advance...) If you're all about flight sims then have at it! the Luftwaffe needs more troops like you!

Now go to the practice/training area (it's offline, single player) you can pick any weapon and have at it, which is handy if you wanna know the danger area between the enemy sniper seeing you and you seeing him with your KAR. there are ranges set up so you can see how big a target is at 100, 200, 300 m (etc...) and adjust your elevation accordingly (pgup pgdn).

When you get in the game: You start rifleman, when you get to level 3 more weapons will unlock (all but sniper and para - level 5).
Once you pick axis or allies, you are locked in for 45min to an hour.
You will then come to the theater map. On the left are units. The green activity is defense, the orange is assault. The truck icon represents a mobile spawn (you spawn closer to objective).
After picking a unit and going to the mission briefing, you can join.
You can sprint, use this sparingly as you may need it (if you are a leg spawning 2km from your target, you'll want to savethe sprint for when you are in combat range).
use your map, other players will mark targets on the map (not always accrate) so you will know where to engage (vs inf) or avoid (vs armor).
When you are engaging, you will need to aim most weapons (r click). when you do this, your breathing will adjust and you can fire off a good shot. If you keep aiming, you will start breathing and your shot will be less accurate.

Ask for help if you get stuck, and almost every night myself or Cucui are on TS in the channel, in game. (danger: he may be less than sober at any given time)

There is a radio in every CP, get in front or next to it (prone) and you can cap it. (you'll see the graphic)

Here are some in-game acronyms (some are obvious or familiar):

N,E, W, S, SE, NNW ... directions, prety obvious
CP=command post/control point these are the flags in the map
city = one flag in every city is called the city, this is what they mean.
AB = army base, every city has one and it has a flag
ET=enemy tank
EA=enemy air
EI enemy infantry
vis=visible, they can see it
MSP = our mobile spawn
EMS = enemy mobile spawn
cap = cap the flag
ATG=anti tank gun (this one is towed/pushed i.e. PAK36)
ATR=anti tank rifle (this is man carried and you can get lvl 3)

You'll learn the different sounds as time goes on so you may see:
Matty audio NW AB inc
this is matilda (Brit tank) audio (meaning he has no vis on the tank) north west of the army base incoming.
they may also say they need people at ___ CP like oost. All you have to do is go to the map, hover or click ont he flag buildings and you'll se the names. see if their abbreviation fits that CP and viola.

******************************

There is a steep learning curve and if they let every one in there with no intention of paying, it would suck more. The people are helpful on the help channel (F6 in game) and the admins are quick to boot the Spam Kitties. I have only had one instance where someone decided to go KKK and they disappeared pretty quickly.

You'll be less than impressed with the graphics but remember, this is 50% scale and you can run from England (well, swim sail or fly) to Mormelon france, to Dusseldorg Germany, to Westvoorne Holland and back without any map or level loads.

See ya in the $4!t
