To those wanting to compete....

Post by Serpent »

I hear a lot about people wanting to compete in CAL... CAL this, CAL that... well, chk out this excerpt from http://www.thecpl.org/league:
http://www.thecpl.org/league wrote: Launched June 26, 1997, the Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) is the world's first videogame sports league and has been the major force in the transformation of videogame competitions to a professional sport.

Over the past nine years, the CPL has hosted 50 international main events with a total attendance of 250,000 gamers, has sanctioned over 500 international qualifiers and has awarded $3,000,000 in prizes.

The Cyberathlete Amateur League (CAL), the CPL's online amateur division, has 500,000 registered members and hosts year-round online tournaments for over 60 game divisions.
I hadn't known previously that CAL was just a way lower scale to CPL...I'd say...if you are going to aspire for something....think big... go for CPL instead of CAL. ;)

CPL holds physical events, you have to commit lots of time and money to go to them and compete.

CAL is an online league for fun.

It isnt just a matter of one being a "bigger scale" than the other -- they are built for two completely different purposes 8)

ok, not *just* a matter of one being bigger than the other... but CAL is like... on the way... to being good enough, to compete with the 'pros' in CPL. hehe

if you absolutely dominated CAL to the point where nobody could even come close to beating you...

then you'd have a slim chance at not getting mega-owned in the CPL

Cal

Like said, CAL is a start, a road leading to CPL. CPL which requires us going to europe and other forgien countries, which I doubt any of us have time for. Let's forcus on CAL, because CPL could happen but it's unlikely.

IIRC, when I was playing with FMJ before I deployed, we took CAL in Desert Combat.
