I have thought of something very cool.

But, then again, probably so have all of you.

That is, to have a sound track for any of the intense first person shooters you play.

I haven't actually done this yet, mostly because i'm either too busy or not motivated enough. Some sort of iTunes file could be filled with all the music you could imagine to aid in your ass kicking.

The only problem would be that you would have to constantly alter the tracks to the form of playing you were doing. You could be rolling right along and then suddenly hit a bad song and start losing.

"Sorry guys, i hit track 13 again. I know, I know, i'll fix it soon."

Just wondering if any of you guys did something like this.

Certainly feasable. I liked in Battlefield Vietnam, you hop into a helicopter and it had a radio with about 12 era songs. Apparently you could add/modify to have your own mp3s play in the list.

I'm usually hearing Nine Inch Nails when playing anything Quake. :D

Do you guys think a strong beat is just as important as a interesting tune?

For interesting beats i like some of the songs from the Gorillaz.

When I play, it's without music. I want to hear every footstep, every door that opens, every item that gets picked up, every shot that is fired so that I can use sound to locate other players. When I'm camping I'll toss something from my inventory to cause a player to make an item pick-up sound when they cross an area so that I can be allerted if they are sneaking about. By the direction the sound comes from, I can often tell if it's enemy or not. Music tends to distract you from hearing these sounds.

Very true. Silence is often the best sound track. When you want the jump on someone it is best to not be rocking out to a head banging song that could distract you.

But how about this? If you could have a sound track for your own style of playing, what would be played?

I use music to get me ready to play, and turn it off when I start playing 8)

I don't like repetitive music, music that repeats the same 2 bars of music over and over through the whole thing. Just about any techno/dance song does this and I find it really annoying.

I was actually listening to Gorillaz when I read your post, Ender. heh.

I have a playlist of songs that really seem to raise my energy level, the one thing that seems common to them all is an aggressive tempo and strong use of the drums. But thats just me.

I'm with the silence thing... it's a great ally when you can hear even the slightest sound that gives away your opponent's position
