Remember these companies are all boasting about what there system are capable of, but it all depends on the software developers. Just because the oppurtunity is there does not mean software developers will take advantage. Look at the last generation there was not a single game that maxed out the spec of the systems or even came close.
Good points Death Dealer... Technology doesn't make the game better, the developer making good use of that technology does.
System summary:
Microsoft Xbox 360 - The only next gen system available now. (Yes, I've seen it on shelfs!) Boasts high definition graphics support. Most gamers will want to avoid the lower cost "Core" system and just go for the "Pro" system to take advantage of the hard drive support. (It's cheaper to buy Pro than to buy the accessories for a Core system.) Microsoft *may* release a HD DVD option in a year to support next gen DVD movie titles.
Nintendo Revolution - claims retro Sega Genisis, Turbo Duo, NES, and SNES emulation. Plus Nintendo will release a game library for these systems of some sorts. Some expect a download and play on-line service with access to 1,000+ titles at launch for the emulated systems. It will also play Game Cube games. The Revolution about doubles the spec's of the previous Game Cube system, and touts a new design for the game controllers to simplify the experiences. This system will be the least expensive and should be available 3rd qtr 2006.
Sony PlayStation 3 - Boasts the bigest and badest spec's with a new CPU design and a Blu-Ray DVD drive. It's release date and price are still controversial at this point. It should launch with about 20 game titles for 2006 or early 2007. Sony has been tight lipped about this system, and game developers have had little to say as well. Sony plans to have BR-DVD movies titles available before the system launches.
