Nah, the butthead already went and got himself a clan. He's had one for a while, apparently...just didn't tell me about it until recently. So he's here bugging everyone just for fun. Feel free to smack him around a bit. :D

"TooL" is getting into CoD2. At least a few are. I think they might show up at one of your thursday/friday practices one of these weeks. <shrugs>

And to the ditz above me, I've been in TooL since 2001 O_o? Surely you remember that crappy medieval counter strike-like game that I made you play once.

edit: I know where the CD is! Want to try it again?

Posting opinions is welcome, but no trolling please.
It's hard to know the final outcome. All the way to world war? As a direct cause, that seems a little too connect-the-dots to me.

The Taiwan issue might be a little more likely, or even Iranian nuke detonation in Israel.

Well, I wanted to wait and see if this topic descended into a bunch of partisan sniping, and am pleasantly surprised to NOT see that.

From the poll results, 12 out of 22 responders picked a civil war option. I think it's already there. And I think that there's nothing we can do to stop it. Not even if we had double the troops there. Here's the freaky part:

Three years ago, when this war was on the eve of its beginning, I predicted this outcome. Civil war. No matter how good the intentions, or noble the goals, history teaches us a great deal about likely outcomes. This region, before the UK came in and screwed it up as well as it could be screwed up, was mostly a clannish/family/religious sect sort of place, and nation-states were not really the rule, but the exception. Even during the time of Alexander and the Persian Empire, the rural areas were pretty autonomous.

This is one of the reasons WW3 (4? 6?) isn't a likely outcome. The civil war there will be local, and since their neighbors actually don't care too much about who wins or loses, the surrounding area will not be involved. There is the issue of oil, but there's enough oil around the world, and still cheap enough, that for the foreseeable future, nobody is going to start a shooting war with a superpower (or a nuclear power) over it.

Civil war results:

A splintered Iraq, southern and central ruled by Sharia law under Shiites, closely allied with Iran. A rich base of terrorist training and equipping - Osama might even move his base of operations there. Plenty of money and equipment for carrying out the low-grade war against the West. THe Shia will carry out ethnic cleansing against the Sunni, and will succeed, except for the Sunni rich enough to get out.

Northern Iraq will be Kurd-controlled, and a separate entity from Iraq. They may even create a Kurdistan. And Turkey will be very angry, because the new Kurdistan will entend into their country in the southeast. Mad enough to kick out the U.S. military presense there.

The U.S. military bases in W. Iraq will become untenable, due to supply issues, and the billions spent building them will have been flushed down the toilet.

I feel very badly for the families of our men and women who were killed and injured over there. Their sacrifices will come to mostly nothing, in the final analysis. They did their duty, and did it well, and nobody can take that away from them, but I think history will view Iraq as another "bad war."

I don't see this being another Bad war, first off cause there is no such thing as a good war. People die in war, people dying is never a good thing. I voted WW3 because we the USA is over there building up a military force for them, and we have actually even started training Special Forces for them. They're going to have a very sofisticated army. What happens if this army continues to grow and they get someone in power with the midset of say... idk... hitler lol. that would result in WW3 if Iraq began invading places. But I doubt anything big will happen, we'll withdraw when we get a democrat in as a president, and it'll be back to millatary cutbacks. There goes my promotion to PFC.

I put "bad war" in quotes for that reason. Vietnam was a "bad war", while WWII was a "good war."

It's a perception kind of thing.

I don't think, no matter how well-trained the new Iraqi army is, thye'll ever be a force for any good except internal security, or as training cadre for terrorists. Sorry, man. :)

Yeah, you're probably right Rico... But the day that China, North Korea, Africa, and Iran descide that they've had enough of this American / Christian B.S. they'll soon find an ally in Iraq.

Oh I know what you're saying about the perception thing, but I mean war in itself is never good. I've always wondered why people call WW2 the great war.... what was so great about people dying?
