its free but you have to update it manually, it doesnt really scan your computer as the others would either. It's more of a preventative measure from getting re-infected.
BTW, Mcafee does detect spyware now in most of their anti virus products also, so that helps alot.
And MS anti-spyware should be just as good IMO as the others... I just havent tried it myself yet

Apparently, I need a legit XP license to install...Baron[CotC] wrote:Dave get MS Antispyware ASAP -- it can completely prevent spyware from ever installing itself. It asks you about every odd registry change a program tries to make, or a .bat file being executed, etc etc.
figures. I left my legit copy on my old computer which has become my wifes'...
Oh well, I need to reformat soon anyway, I guess I'll just install a legit one when I get around to that

The best spyware I have found is Spyware Doctor by PC Tools. I had spyware litterally cripple my computer, I had no control of my internet any more and my computer was extremely slow. I had on my computer ad-aware, mc cafee, MS anti-spyware. Ad-aware was the only one to detect the spyware but was not strong enough to remove it. These three programs showed me as spyware free. But my computer was definately infected. I purchased Spyware Doctor from http://www.pctools.com installed it, ran it and it found 50 or so traces of spyware. The program was only $20 - $30 and has updates multiple times a day. Another plus is it uses way less system resources then our friend MCcafee. The spyware that had caused my drama was spyaxe. It is very good at preventing pop-ups as well.
