I had the chance to play late tonight, and missed a lot of you. I was searching for a deathmatch game and at random entered the Phoenix Sniper Team server.
Their website is located here: http://www.phoenixsniperteam.com
Anyway, this was a CoD2 game, and it was interesting, while also annoying. They appear to have made a very interesting mod, specifically for sniping. No close kills are allowed, in fact you are punished by the mod for doing so. They appear to from on kills that are less than 200+ yards from the target, so my 100- kills were "bad".
The mod looks great and has many alterations, scope is different, heads fly off after a long distance shot, and other weapons are restricted.
Not sure if others have play this or not. But it started my mind to thinking. Exactly what is required to code a modification?
Imagine a mod where camping was required, where so many people were required to stay in a particular area for a length of time in order to claim the flag, like domination, but a much larger flag area. What if people who moved to frequently were punished by the mod? It would be the flipside of what the community typically expects and supports.
Things like that sell because its not what's expected.

they went away from borrowing codeFor Call of Duty 2, Infinity Ward has ditched the Quake 3 engine in favor of all-new proprietary technology. In many regards, it still looks a lot like Call of Duty - the interface looks the same, and the characters look and move in a familiar style. There are some new bells and whistles, however, from the real-time lighting and shadows to the advanced smoke effects that look like they'll play a big part in the game. At first glance, it doesn't pack the "wow" punch of a Half-Life 2 or DOOM 3, but it looks to be a big improvement from the first game.

I have been on that server as well. Great idea about turning it around to a camping map though!!
A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan next week. A pint of sweat, saves a gallon of blood. No poor bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making other bastards die for their country.

Hi guys, thanks for dropping by our servers and checking 'em out...even if it was by accident at first.
The mods we run are a rework of the same ones we have in COD and COD U/O. They are far from complete as we have a couple more we are working on but the basics that we need to run a smooth sniper server are done.
The philoophy behind the mods is that unlike a Fragg Server, you are required to find a spot...scope and shoot your target. This would be impossible with people running around the map, shooting you at close range or clubbing you over the back of the head. If you are spotted or give yourself away, then you can move to another spot but must do it stelthily.
The Mods are:
Close Kill Mod - Protection set to 40yds due to small maps in COD2 in U/O it is set to 75. This includes protection from mellee atacks also.
Spawn Protection: Allows you to move from the spawn point to your hide without being shot.
Anti Run and Gun: When you move to relocate, you must move in crouch or prone after assuming a sniper position. This mod only lets you take a few steps in a "run" position before stopping you and referring you to the rules of the server. (COD2 only as we have other punishments we can use in U/O)
Head Popping: Just for fun. Heads and or helmets fly off when shot in the head.
Blood Mod: Extra gore effects.
We are currently working on a renaming mod to combat those "Unknown Soldiers" and a couple of others.
ANyway, if you would like to discuss or have questions, our server "guru" and modder is {PST}Rocky. You can get him on our forums or via e-mail. (that's on the forum too)
See you on the field. (Before you see me!)
