While the idea of a low-budget gaming system is cool..
They missed their $500 by a long shot.
The parts they list total to $516, but thats me being picky.
Except.. ho ho ho they forgot lots of parts
Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor, Speakers/Headset, and a case to throw the parts in.
I guess what they really mean is.. how to upgrade your old computer to play today's games at almost as little as $500 heh
theres no way to build a gaming rig of any quality whatsoever from scratch for $500

And even at that, the latest junk will tax your PS heavily. So slap a new PS in there, too.RedBaron wrote:While the idea of a low-budget gaming system is cool..

Sorry, $500 buys you some guts. $750 buys you guts and a box. $1200 buys you guts, a box and the stuff needed to interact with your latest games.
Hey, Dave - what did I spend, again?
LOL.

They say in teh article that this is without periferals (sp)....
I was just posting this showing that with a little flexabilty parts can be gotten and rigs can be upgraded...
Hell..
I havea 939 board and I have an AMD athlon64 #500 tho....
and I have the 6600 (PCIe tho) but I paid for the case PS, a full Gig of RAM and 2x 200Gb Drives......
But that still got me out the door for $999.88
just trying to help out some of the younger less employed of our ranks and our friends
