The easiest answer is to see if you know stuff.

I deal with this daily, but largely only as it relates to Special Education students and various AB2726 standards. What is really difficult is to adjust a students cirriculum, make it easier to comprehend, modify it, or accomodate the student only to later have that student at a disadvantage because of the very modifications which were intended to keep them in school.

Legally the various school districts have a responsibility to provide a Free and Appropriate Public Education, and these tests are a way to measure that now, if they are in fact doing that per se.

Also now kids have to deal with the exit examination and algebra standards or receive a certificate of completion versus a diploma.

Retention is key.

Sorry for the bad news but they should make the SAT/ACT tougher.
It is a well established fact IMHO that these exams have been
getting easier to pass in recent years, but even so they are still the
best single indicator of first year college performance. So keep them,
but don't inflate the actual grades for social purposes.

To paraphrase Thomas Friedman,
"Do your homework kids, because there are millions of smart
children in India and China who are starving for your future jobs,
and they will eat your lunch if you don't work hard and study".
