Steam... what a bunch of morons

Post by M4v3r1ck »

You know, halflife used to be a lot better before Steam ever took control of it. Now that steam has it, it has been one screw up after another.

So I get an email from steam saying that my cc has been declined and that I need to resubmit my transaction if I want to get DOD:S. I figure wtf? cc declined what a crock of sh*t. So I call them up and they tell me that the purchase has been recently approved. But steam says it's been declined. If there is one thing in this world that drives me crazy, it is incompetent people who don't know their heads from their asses, and the people at Steam are those kinds of people.

So now I'm going to have to wait for this crap to settle but will probably get nowhere because steam will probably do what they do best, either nothing or screw things up worse. Or better yet, they'll cancel that transaction because they can't fix it any other way and ask me to resubmit my transaction to purchase the game, thus no longer qualifying for the pre purchase price. It's really not a big deal about the $$$, I mean if I paid for the game, I'll get it, but it is truely a matter of principle.

Sorry for ranting/flaming, I'm just upset.

i can play css, its just that until they figure out this problem, it shows that I haven't paid for dod:s. So it is no longer in my "my games" part of the menu.

there's a huge thread about this on their forums - apparently you're far from the only one that it's happened to.

I can foresee someone getting a serious a$$ reaming - imaging how much business that they had within their grasps but just lost because someone couldn't get their CC software working.

Mine went through fortuntely...

Ya, I read that stuff last night. I sent in a ticket and they have set up a page that I can go back to to see if they have posted an answer to my problem, but man what a pain in the ars. I hope you are right when you say that they will lose a crap load of business from this screw up. They don't deserve any business if they screw up this big. The thing I can't believe is that, considering how much potential money they are losing, they haven't figured out a solution yet.

yeah, you'd think that all possible resources would go to that...
How many people have pre-loaded it, played for two days before being declined and now at this point their just calling their CC company cancelling the order.

If they had their crap straight to begin with, they would have they're $17.99 and they wouldn't be able to cancel on them.

I am in the same boat, and as of yet too pissed off to give them a charge card again. So for now I have no DOD S.

would'nt that be rediculous if being Canadian is causing you problems purchasing a game via credit card? count one more person's business lost. I was considering buying the game but was waiting for some reviews from you guys. I was quite disappointed to hear there are only 4 maps, and now with all these billing issues (even if resolved), I can't see myself supporting them with this game.

you'd think they'd be very careful with game releases, when these days the internet is the ultimate information sharing source to find out everything you need to about any product. I know all I need to, thanks for sharing your positive and (more) negative experiences guys.

...though DOD:S currently has only 4 official maps... there are several more from the original DOD that have to be ported over.. I'm sure those will come, in time.. even though I got it free with my hl2 silver steam package.. I'd still recommend getting DOD:S...

(I live in the US.... and you all may be right about it actually being a Canadaian problem... but not sure..)

nope, people from the UK have had similar experiences. Not sure if any folk from the US have had the problem. Apparently this problem is generating quite a lot of negative publicity for Valve/Steam. Wouldn't that be nice if this would spell the end of Steam.

Personally, I love Steam. If my computer crashed, and I needed to reinstall all the games that are accessible in Steam, I just download the Steam client, and have it go get all of the content for a TON of games at once. :) It's awesome! (Now, if only other companies would do the same thing, like EA games... so I could download all of the Battlefield games' content (since I have all of them) and all of the Command and Conquer stuff (since I have all of those too)...

I agree, Steam is a great concept, but it's poorly operated.

It reminds me of when ICQ decided to store your contact list on their servers rather than in .db files on your hard drive.
Being able to access that data from anyplace is awesome!
