I went to connect to it the other night, 300+ pings and choppy due to it. I'll try again tonight, all I know is alot of people pointing out ping issues (within CS:S) after latest Steam update.

Ok, I misread....

Updates to Steam have been released. The update will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. This release includes a number of very specific CPU and memory footprint optimizations brought over from the Half-Life 2: XBOX development codebase. The release also includes all of the engine groundwork to enable the Day of Defeat: Source launch that will happen Monday, September 26 at 3:00 PDT.

I bought the Collector's Edition of Half-Life 2 on DVD. Even though it's retail, I think I'm eligable for Silver level Half-Life 2 items. I may get DOD:S, we'll see. It's not my game any way.

Serp, I find it odd that they are bringing over specific optimizations from the Xbox development codebase to the PC code. The Xbox is a specialized system. Even though it's components are PC based, it's apples and oranges. Not to mention that the Xbox doesn't use Windows. And their CPU is a specialized Intel Pentium III product for the Xbox. I don't see how this will work out well for PC users. But we'll see, any performance gain is still a gain! :)

My thoughts exactly... since the xbox was made for gaming.. there may be other aspects that end up coming over to PCs.. who knows..

The steam forums are full of posts by PO'ed colo admins who want to get their servers up for their clients prior to the release.

And of course, not one single word from steam about when the DS is supposed to be released.

It's gonna be pretty when these thousands of people get their pre-ordered copies but the only servers to play on are listen servers from people's cable modems.

Lame as usual!

Depends... If you were rich like Akira, you would be complaining about the latest Steam update that fried your configuration files! :D In that case, being poor is better.

Me rich? AHahah! I wish. :P

It didn't mess my configuration files at least, just horrible ping in game, which I still have yet to check if it is still occuring.

DoD has been the cheapest game I've bought yet - well other than the freebie deal I got on CS:S (Thank ya Rico!)

I can't really complain about it...

Free? Dude, you EARNED it. I would say you got screwed in the deal - I really got the better end.

Whoops, shouldn't've told you that...
