You follow behind them, without your heat seeking missiles off and they have no idea you are there. Wait till they’re nice and level, switch to heat seekers when you’re right on their tail, and the don’t have a chance. BOOOM>>>>>>> 2 points.

I love this game.
That would be my idea!
It suddenly occured to me that they don't buzz "missle-lock" on other air targets when your switched to bombs. So I tried using it as a tactic and it worked great!
The better flyers are slick to it though and check their rear cam more often to see if you're still on em.

hehe yeah, I actually find its easier to score air-to-air kills with the damn missiles off and just using the guns :P

The trick to being successful in the planes in BF2 is to remember that its very difficult to look around in that cockpit, youre locked viewing forward except for a couple cheesy chasecams that really suck for viewing. For the first while this frusterated me to no end because as a pilot its important to be aware of your behind at all times. But now I'm starting to use it to my advantage, knowing they cant see anything but in front of them either. So far my most successful evasion tactic is to do a sharp 90-degree turn followed by pointing my plane way up into the sun and using the afterburner, that tends to lose most enemy pilots fairly easily -- they dont look up.
On the whole viewing thing..... U are right, the cams are crap. But try using your left control button, with that depressed you get to scan with your mouse and u can look almost 180 degree back, and actually if you start a slight turn, look back u get not a bad view. Little hard on the eyes at first and if you are in a tight battle can be difficult, but gives u a quick peek for any seekers.

Not a bad tip... too bad I fly with my gamepad and I'd end up smashing into a mountain if I reached for my mouse hehehe
