Well this is what is known as a Greek return. Many of the M1 Garands were shipped off to Greece, (and Denmark) after WWII and then returned to te USA some time later. Some of these had the stocks "replaced" in Greece.
I had an USGI HRA Service grade on order since January, but they ran out before they filled my order.
I switched to the Greek Service grade when I learned that there were only 500 left.
I think it is the wood is Beech, but it is hard to tell. The thing is like a freakin plank of wood, I mean it's heavy. I can't imagine what it was like to carry one of these things (and the ammo!) from Normandy to Austria.
I am looking for an original HRA stock to put back on it.
I can't wait to shoot it. BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG
