My New Rig

Post by NightReaver[CotC] »

Well I finally wore my wife down and talked her into letting me spend $1000 on a new computer (Only took about 3 years.) Well anyhow here it is.

MOBO = MSI K8N Neo4-F
CPU = AMD64 3500
RAM = Kingston 512Mb x2 Match Set (for a total of 1Gb)
Video = Nvidia GeForce 6600 256MB PCIx 16x
BootDrive = 80Gb ATA100 IDE
Storage = 200Gb x2 SATA7200RPM (striped of course)

Half of my software is installed

I do have the three important bits of software installed:
CoD-UO
Ventrillo
xFire

You should watch out for those "stripped" hard drives, that can cause problems! I prefer mine to be striped!

Nice specs BTW!

Nice, where you get the stuff?

Can't you feel our souls ignite
Shedding ever changing colours,
in the darkness of the fading night,
Like the river joins the ocean,
as the germ in a seed grows
We have finally been freed to get back home.

It's a little shop near me and well my wife said you have UP TO $1000 so I spent $999.81 got all that and a case with a WORKS 400Watt PS (I'll edit the PS info later can't exactly remember now.) A link to my original parts list is here http://www.kdinc.net/computer.html and the only thing that changed on that was the vid card and I added a PS links to the part descriptions are there too.

I'm happy. Built it so it was upgradable later. My MOBO can handle the AMD FX5800 CPU too and upto another 7Gb of RAM and with the PCIx 16x I think I'm good for a bit (till they change something)

It means you take 2 drives and make them act as one.......
the advantage is this....
say you have a 2Gb file and you want to say it to your stiped drives here is what happens
that files is written half to one drive half to the other.
while one drive is reading the other is writing and vise versa
double the data rate essentially

Double read at least, write isn't improved much...
Striped is referred to as RAID 0
Mirrored is RAID 1
I currently have 1 RAID 0 and 1 RAID 1 in my PC, I use the RAID 0 for programs, games etc, and the RAID 0 for my critical data...

RAID 5 is great... for servers
don't really need it for your home pc though!

Long dstory short I have an 80Gb the needs to take the place of a 20Gb for my boot drive and well I havent taken the time to ghost it.
