Tourny

Post by Greg Boyington »

I just wanna bring this up again because i think we should really do it you know. I have an idea for the director fi you want me or another like Red Baron or somebody.
1:The people who want to enter the tourny dont get to pick their team. They must send a message to the director and we could have a deadline for entrance.
2:After the deadline the director looks up all the peopls stats on the vsp website and organizes fair teams and then posts them on the forums so the teams will have time to talk stratagie.
3: then we have schedualed games.
Just an idea but o well if it dosent work.

We tossed that idea around but I believe the conclusion was it was a ton of work with no clear goal.

What we need to do is practice working as a team and develop some tactics, I dont think the tourney will help us in that regard.

When our legions get to a certain size we will start having monthly little practices where we can have squads battling eachother. Until that time were going to have to be patient as we look to build our squads and develop our tactics.

I agree with Kool and Greg. There may not be a goal, but it will be fun! I have offered my services to help setup and run this tourny, my offer still stands.

I'm not so sure this is a great idea. And since RedBaron and Aide-de-Camp have both have stated thier reservations as to holding this event, perhaps we should listen to thier advice and put this on the back burner.

Sorry Greg, I do tend to side with the others on holding off. We have not even had a good stratagey based practice night yet. Although our skill sets are improving we are no where near we need to be to work as a team. Our discipline and stratagies need to be worked out so that as a TEAM, we can enter tourneys or invite other clans to scrims and RULE. Let us spend our time now were we need it most.

Heh, I am not against and impromptu session here and there, and for the most part we are doing that now, just let us get organized properly. Also we still need to recruit more members for COD. (maybe Red's bros will join) We should work to obtain these goals first.
A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan next week. A pint of sweat, saves a gallon of blood. No poor bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making other bastards die for their country.

What our Clan *should* be like, according to those who have had a grand total of two months in-Clan.

If ADC and Red Baron do not think it's a good thing, then the course of action is this:

We're not going to do it. Oddly, Red Baron has say on what is and what is not the focus of the combat legions.

Of course, his position will come up for a vote some time. He is completely accountable for his decisions. As is ADC, as his position comes up for vote as well.

Ain't democracy grand? :)

You see...to me the idea of a competition like this is a grand one. Yes, it sounds like it could be a very fun time. But these legions are newborns, bearly starting out. Before we go off competing against ourselves for kicks...why don't we try working together as a team? Aide said as much, and Red agreed with him.

Competing against ourselves has much more potential to cause strain than if we simply practiced, tried working together and going over strategies. What is the point of a competition between ourselves...other then to establish an official table of who's better then who? I'd rather play to know you've got my back. I'd rather play for fun, to gain friends, and for the great ventrillo banter that gets started up when everyone's having a blast.

I dont care if I'm good. Hell, I'll intentionally go out there and do the stupidest stuff possible in game, if only to get a laugh out of you guys. I'm a big dork, and I love it. I don't, however, love the stresses of people constantly saying I was wtfpwned, and this horrible incentive to be the best....to kick everyone's ass, even though....we're all in the same clan.

The whole point of this tourny would be about having FUN!!! Getting alll of the COD capable folk together, playing some games and having FUN! This is not about seeing who is top dog, what I think Greg and I are talking about is just something to have a good time with, not determine who is better than who.

It makes no sense to devote time and energy to a tournament that will see us fighting against eachother when we're still trying to build our legions and practice playing as a team. I know youre all saying that youll volunteer to organize it, and thats great, BUT -- it still means we're locking the cod server for the tourney matches and it still means our cod players are playing against eachother instead of practicing teamwork. Time and energy means all people involved, not just tourney organizers.

Right now our focus is on developing teamwork and getting the CotC banner visible. Visible in a good way I should add heh.

When the time comes we will re-evaluate this idea, for sure. In fact when I designed the legions I designed them with this very idea in mind. Within each Legion there are centuries, which are squads of 6, I had planned for the Legion to have a monthly practice session where the squads can practice against eachother and maybe show eachother a new tactic or two, with the goal of bettering eachother. But at this time neither of our legions even has ONE full century. Our focus is on building.

My strong suggestion is that you save the comment entirely.

Maybe Talon can explain some stuff to you via e-mail such that it can be a little more clear than I'm writing it in a public forum. Also, that way, it can get to you through the proper chain of command.

RedBaron wrote: locking the cod server
This is a key point - this server is a resource of Clan of the Camper. Paid for by Clan membership, and run for CotC by the Clan leadership. Clan leadership makes decisions about server use. If the use clashes with the current goals of the Clan, then it would be a poor use of scarce Clan resources.

Now, if folks want to do this thing by setting up their own server, I'd say that should be allowed, as long as it doesn't conflict with current Clan activities. An analogy would be that you could play all the Everquest you wanted, as long as you put in your time at your CotC duties. Of course, the "why" of playing Everquest would be in question, but that's a tangent troll to the point... ;)
