Something to see today

Starting at about noon, and lasting until end of day, look about
45 degrees East of the Sun. You will see the crescent Moon.
Just 1 degree South, below the bottom of the Moon, look
very carefully and you will see Venus.

How to measure degrees: Extend your arm in front of you
and hold up 1 finger. Your finger is about 1 degree wide.
With your arm still extended, hold up your entire hand as
if you are telling someone to halt. From tip of fingers to
bottom of your hand is about 10-15 degrees.

Can't find it, is it low to the horizon? Trees may be in the way.

If you posted in early afternoon, it was in the southeastern sky. By now at 20:00 Eastern,
it is low in the the southwest. Lots of planets tonight - Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Uranus,
Neptune and Pluto. Saturn will be up a little after midnight. Only Mars is missing, being
on the far side of the Sun right now.
