Campquake Senate

....will not run (excluding one demo, and I'll get to that in a sec).

I don't know what happened....I play all Battlefield games, and at first thought it was just something screwed with my install of BF2142, but I can't even get BF2 to run right now... the same thing happens with both games..I double click the icon on the desktop and it goes to act as though it is going to play, I see the hourglass, and the dvd in the drive revs up, and then nothing...it stays at the desktop.

This behavior is identical with both BF2 and BF2142, as far as the hourglass then back to desktop... I am only needing my dvd for BF2, as I downloaded BF2142. I went as far as uninstalling, then redownloading and reinstalling then repatching BF2142....and still no go.

Odd thing though....out of all this...the only thing I can get to run fine is the demo for BF2142.

I go through the dx drivers over again and reinstalled it... but still no luck... reinstall BF2142 and no luck...

Help?!?!

BTW - I read posts about windows update issues regarding crashes, etc... but I don't even get far enough to crash... it just stays on the desktop. heh..

try skippig the shortcut on the desktop and run the .exe directly?

Try Bf2142 1.05 patch?

What does BF2 and BF2142 have on common?

Answer that, and you might be able to figure out where this problem may lie.

Is it a server on the EA network? Is it DirectX? Maybe something is screwy with Safedisk or your DVD drive?

what do they have in common? good question...

possibly directx, althrough all call of duty games play fine and they use dx as well...

ok...got 1.05 patch for 2142, and installed and tried running 2142 with that, and still no luck...

is there a way to totally uninstall all directx stuff and then reinstall everything directx related all at once, afterwards?

Nothing helped.......

so, yesterday, i formatted, and have been downloading and reinstalling all night.... just got done playing me some bf2142....

i think the trick with dx as far as the bf2142 goes, is, you need to let it update your dx, then never touch it again. lol....b/c it auto updates only what it needs to, then it runs fine.... it even plays after i patch to 1.06. hehe

I dunno how many points I have right now.

So, my first successful on-line game, I played for ten minutes. I chose support, and got dropped right in the middle of a firefight. Every red diamond got hosed, and they were dropping like flies.

Someone had EMPed a PAC walker, and the crew abandoned right as I was was coming around the corner. I swear I only gave them each a 3-round burst, and they both went down. Then I climbed in the walker just as a guy on my team jumped in, and we went hunting. Day-um, that's fun. Took out two transport choppers and a load of 11 Bravos - every time I clicked the mouse button, some guy would die.

But just as I was really having a good time, the EA BAstard, errr, Master server dropped me, and I got to be P.O.ed at EA.

But for the time I was in-game, I was playing WAAAAAY above my head.

Now I need to find an unlock crack so I can play the damn unlocks. ANd a mod that lets me play titan mode SP.

found me a cool camping spot ... in titan mode, grab a mounted gun on the ship and when your titan is close to the enemy titan you can fire at every single ship that takes off so you can keep them only launching via pods. LOL....i loved doing that earlier today..

anyways.. you can see if anyone has any pre-order promos or something, maybe ebay?...i preordered via gamestop...got a code that got me a free unlock or something.... PLUS...i gave my bf2 name as a different promotion - ea directly for this one - and got a free promotion, i think it was, thus another unlock...
