Fair warning: This is not a political post, just the future as I see it.
If people start flaming, I will ask the moderators to remove the entire
thread. So please be respectful to each other.
Democrats 2008. Hillary Clinton will not be nominated. If chosen
anyway, she will not win and the Democrats can be written off for
another 4 - 8 years. Otherwise, the line consists of Al Gore,
Mark Warner, and John Edwards. My bet is on the former governer
of Virginia --- Warner, you tourist!
Republicans 2008. D_i_c_k Cheney will retire due to health reasons
IMHO immediately after the midterm elections in 2006, which the
Republicans will win. Whoever replaces him will automatically be
the front runner. This will not stop John McCain from winning
the nomination though. If McCain is nominated, he will
be the next president. Otherwise the line consists of Frist, Giuliani
and Romney. My bet is on McCain.
In Nov 2008, the Republicans will fracture, unable to reconcile
McCain to the extreme right wing. But a substantial number of
Democrats will change party to vote for McCain as someone
who can unify the country, which will make this election a
horserace.
Between Warner and McCain politicaly, I don't think I could tell
them apart at 20 paces even with my glasses on. I think the
USA will do well with either choice.
