Serpent,

I know you have recently purchased several games. I was on the fence about purchasing Rome: Total War for the purpose of taking on Red Baron. But just as I was about to take this leap we've had another influx of games and you've purchased and played most of them.

Now I've read the reviews and seen the sites and toyed with the demos. I have a monthly game budget and need to choose which way I fly here. So I wanted to get some imput from you.

Out of CoD2 or Quake 4 which has your attention the most and which game has superior multiplayer?

Also, Age of Empires 3 in comparison to AOE2, does the new version start with colonies in the Americas? Can one fight against the Great White North and the Frenchies? Does one still have to collect timber, golds and stone to keep economics going?

Give me an idea which way to purchase this month...

My personal view is COD2, but I am one sided as I have not seen Quake.

Did you enjoy Quake 3 multiplayer? Because thats almost EXACTLY what Quake 4 multiplayer is.

Of the two games, Q4 and CoD2, I'd have to say that CoD2 will catch on faster and be more popular -- but I havent purchased CoD2 as of yet.

Q4 versus CoD2 - good question!

I have both and am in the process of playing both - single player - before I get into the multiplayer aspect of either, much... and even though I'd have to say .. that from the playing around I have done in multiplayer of each... I have to say this:

Quake 4 - as Red said.. similar to Q3... in that it is fast paced, and all that.. but it comes with more than the standard Q3 does (I don't have Q3:TA so I can't speak to that end) and I like the weapons of Q4, a lot.. so I can imagine it would be a lot of fun....

CoD2 - all the gametypes (from what I can tell) that CoD:UO has.. and better graphics and better interface... a lot of the familiar maps, such as my favorite.. Carentan, for example.. are redone.. and look a lot better, but have differences... for example, on carentan i cod2, the axis flag (in ctf mode) is out in the street instead of back behind the building... its more in the open, which makes more fair, so that both teams have their flag in the open... One very bad thing, as far as I am concerned, about CoD2, is the fact that even in multiplayer, you STILL can not see how much health you have... you can get shot, get hit by a grenade.. or whatever.. be half dead, and never know it.. I haven't played this with anyone else yet, but based on that, I am guessing that dead bodies don't even leave any health packs... Personally, I always like to know how close I am to dying, so I know how much more extra cautious I have to be about things...

AOE2 vs AOE3 - big differences... I like AOE3 a lot.. You can pick any of a number of maps here in the US.. for example, there is one that is called Texas... ;) You make trading outposts on trade lines that bring an ongoing supply of whatever you have it set to collect..whether its gold, wood, or food... or it will collect experience. You build up your 'experience' and use it to buy 'cards' that are used in your home city, at which you can send supplies to the 'colony' that you are building... It's hard to explain unless you play it... but you can enlist the help of the varying natives of the area to fight.. and yes, you still have to keep chopping those trees down, and mining that gold or silver, and collecting berries or hunting buffalo (or some other animal).. but unlike prior games.. you can get a constant supply of both food and stone... via a certain type of building you can make ..so you only need to really worry about chopping down trees... (sidenote: i don't have time to play this one a lot, since my current focus has been q4 single player, so if you want, you can borrow. :) )

Just in defense of CoD2....
I should be going that route myself and have read a lot on the matter....
There are fixes for the health meter...(will send info when back at system with Bookmarks) and the AWE mod for CoD2 will fix a few of the other quirks as well.... again I will edit my post with articles and such when I have access to my computer that all of my bookmarks are on.......

suffering from CRS at the moment

What's wrong with not being able to see your health? Most first person games that I'm playing don't give you a health bar, it makes it more realistic and makes the player be more cautios and careful. Like Halo, you don't get a health bar in that game, just a shield that goes up and down, and when it's down, it only takes a few shots to kill you.

more realistic? if it were realistic, you would be limping or crawling or something to that affect, if you were near dead... but in games like CoD2, where you have no health bar, you also don't slow down if you are hurt... you can just keep on going. heh

lets make a USB-powered rifle that actually shoots you in the leg when you get shot in-game, and see how cautious people play then!

MUWAHAHAHA!

I think you'll be their first test subject when it is developed
