IMHO yes it does, but not at the expense of harmony.

Without true acculturation no greater society emerges, and the foundations of civilization are torn down, slowly over time.

Rome.

Now I am a proponent of celebrating cultural diversity, but I am keen to point out I think we, as a Western Civilization, have gone too far.

This would be kin to my ancestory being German, Irish, Native American, English, Dutch, and a couple others. I could celebrate each, and I'm sure my ancestory did. Over time though, they in fact became part of the larger grouping.

I fear if that process is not ensured, that generationally people unite with the society in which they live, disversity itself becomes a mechanism for destruction. Such as people not having a common language, or even a common border, etc.

I think it is a big disadvantage to not know English fluently. English is a global language. And it's a requirment to read and write in basic English if you wish to be a naturalized United States Citizen. Although "He has a very big dog" won't get you to the Empire State building, but its nice to know that they at least expect you to know how to communicate something. In Canada its either English or French. Make up your mind!!!

Oh, and be glad that you dont live in Sothern California. The streets are speaking Englanisharabic these days. And it's not uncommon in my area to see advertisements on buildings in either of the three languages!

Well I'll just take this time to voice my discontent with the English language... damn thing breaks every "rule" it has, theres more exceptions than words that stick to the rules.

Now German! Theres a language that sticks to its rules!

then again.. pirate slang is pretty cool too.....

After learning Latin, I also have become so discontent with English. The only things English has are that several fairly powerful countries speak it, and there is no declining or massive conjugation.

There is good and bad in diversity. As in most all things. I have no problem with the government doing stuff English-only. Why? Because it's cheaper. That's it. I'm also for closing the northern and southern borders much more seriously. Northern to control drugs, southern to control drugs and people.

That having been said, our southern neighbors can teach us a thing or two about family. Our northern neighbors could teach us about how to be humble in the wide world.

Being in the military today and seeing what I see, I can humbly say that we are at the American equivalent to the tail end of the Roman civilization.

This post was submitted as joke. It is nice to see the diversity in our clan members and their beliefs/culture. I kind of figured it would spark various discussions on some of the quips.

The last item regarding English hits home as we have a lot of immigration every year and their associated language and cultures that they want instilled into the Canadian “way of life”. This is not all bad and I have no prejudices, but it does cause our governments and people a lot of time, effort and money via laws, courts etc to deal with the various nuances. But… with out the influx of immigrants into our economy, we as a hole in Canada would be in economic turmoil. And…. It is what makes us Canadian, after all. This also relates to our US neighbors, except for all our aboriginals, we are all descended from immigrants.

You're not the only one who sees that.

"Of the plutocracy, by the plutocracy, for the plutocracy."

If you ain't rich, you're toast. And even then, there are many more of us, than them.
