When Aide-De-Camp, Buzzed, Killah, and myself were in the practice last night we disscused a possible tourny within the clan. We thought that would be cool to do.

We do have enough people for this. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

We've held similar things before, and if setup right they do wonders to sponsor "togetherness" and teamwork.
The key is to emphasize fun rather than the scores and who wins, and to setup teams so theyre balanced and there isnt any team with all the best players on it.
The other trick is someone has to be the tournament director and do the paperwork to keep the tourney running smoothly.

Okay lets make it happen. We need to pick a date that will be good for most of the clan. Say within a couple of weeks.
We have Thursdays and Fridays already, c/b one of those days, but CSS is going as well. How about a Sunday night?
We should set up a "registration" and prepick the teams, set up the server, game type, weapons etc.
Vern as offered to help. Night is Legatus so he s/b involved as this will be a clan COD event. I would be willing to help as well.
Red you mentioned that we would need someone in charge of the "paperwork" would that person be a player during the game as well? I would hate to have anyone sit this one out.
On the flip side, it seems that 33% of voters so far do not want a tourney. Anyone want to step up and mention why? PM me if you want.
Maybe this post s/b moved to Clan events.... As long as GL has access.

The tourney organizer can play, no prob there.
At this point, judging by how many active cod players we have, im thinking it would have to be a 2v2 tourney so that we'd have a decent number of teams?
I think if we stretched it to 4v4 we'd have max 3 teams, if we included campers? hmm 3v3 could work.
The other thing to decide is the gametype.
Once thats out of the way we pick teams -- the schedule for the tourny would have to be flexible... maybe a round robin spanning a couple weeks, everyone plays every other team, they setup a date that both teams can make it and then have some fun.
Thats how we did it last time, I think it was a q2 tdm tourny at that point.
If you're thinking of a different format let me know.

When I responded to this idea, I did so with the caveat that as we move forward the legion itself may determine that this is what they want to do. That is to write, as we improve our ability to function as an actual legion, we can compete. But competition can never be the foundation of our activity, as it is a path to failure.
Rather, if we concentrate on becoming CotC, increase our numbers, and subsequently our skills, we stand a better chance of successful and longstanding competitition for those who are truely committed. For each member presenting themselves for tournament play would not only need to be a legion member, but capable of devoting their singular purpose toward victory. This means drill. This means practice. This means having a team.
With the legion not even complete as a unit, and having only partial practices now, I don't think any of these criterion have been met at all. And I believe this is a bad idea. The better idea is to become a skilled fighting unit who knows itself, it's surroundings, it's capabilities, and more importantly the capabilities of its enemies, your competitors.
Be patient campers, and camp this out. All good things to those who wait.

Good points Aide.
My thought was more a one or two nighter at the most, a round robin VERY informal type of affair that all can attend including the campers. This is really just to set up teams and practice combat in team form.
The teams do need to be set up ahead of time so that each team can have thier own practice session.
After the tourney, heh and maybe even before, we can disscuss stratagies etc between teams.
