Still a little disappointed though. It's a huge heavy caliber sniper rifle, but people often still survive shots from it. In reality, I would imagine a kevlar vest would not stop a bullet of that caliber, but maybe I'm wrong.
The 50 BMG would go through kevlar as if it weren't even there. A hit in the center of mass would certainly be devastating, and not survivable.
Even if you could wear armor that would stop the 50, it would be simalar to being hot by a car.
A hit taken to an arm or leg might be survivable, but certainly not pretty.
At 2000 yards, the 50 BMG has more energy and velocity than a 44 magnum pistol round a point blank range.
It's one bad mojo, and I want one reaallll bad, but I can't afford one.
You folks in Kali can't buy them anymore.
My understanding is that a round can punch all the way through the engine block on most soft-skinned vehicles, can punch through the side plating on a Bradley, and that with special DU AT rounds, it can penetrate the frontal armor on most APCs. I do not know specifically if these claims are all true.
I *do* know for a fact (having seen digital photos of the ghastly incident) that a shot in the upper torso slightly below the clavicle at 1500 ft. will all but decapitate the recipient. That damn thing will frickin' cut you in half.
It would kill the game to have the thing as powerful as it is in Real Life(tm). It would be a big sniperfest, and you wouldn't be able to get around the battlefield on foot, at all. A couple of campers at the enemy's base to cover the spawn points and you could just sit there and kill anyone who spawned.
It would suck.

well the awp in CS is basically a one shot kill in most cases, and that's a fairly popular game anyways.
the way sniper rifles are now in BF2, you basically need a spotter to take the last shot unless you're shooting a stationary target (yeah right) so you can get consistent headshots. I very rarely see a sniper leading a team as it is now. who stands around long enough to be shot twice in the chest by a sniper?
I recognize that making it true to reality makes it very powerful, but snipers are essentially useless in their current form. It's not like they are really hard to see (especially by commanders). In BF2, even with a good hiding spot, you can only shoot a few times before everyone knows where you are.
I don't like to play snipers ALL the time or anything, I would just like to see every unit type be useful. maybe I'm just too noob to get it.

I work in the military with C9's (almost exactly the same as the M16) primarily, but have never fired a sniper rifle. I have had some interesting opportunities though, including a light and medium machine gun, m72 rocket launcher (bazooka for anti-personnel and no-armor vehicles), carl gustav (anti-tank gun very similar to what you see in BF2) and a really lame pistol.
I'm sure a few american civilians in this clan have fired more weapons than I have.
A few of Warf's "Sniper" rifles.

very nice! the last two have so many similarities it's like they're modified M16's. Different grip, ejection port cover, barrel and scope, but the body, magazine and butt look the same.
BTW, is'nt that a bit of a large mag?
I thought only the military could have that many rounds.

Yes, the last two are the same weapon, and it is an AR-15, a semi-auto civilian version of the M-16. I built it from parts.
It's a 30 round magazine. We are allowed to have normal-capacity magazines again now in the US since last Septembers sunsetting of the infamous "Assault Weapons Ban".
Well, everyone but the folks that live in these places:
No magazines with a capacity over 10-rounds to CA., DC., *HI., MA., *NY, and Toledo Ohio
No magazines with a capacity over 12-rounds to Chicago Illinois
No magazines with a capacity over 15-round to NJ. Cincinnati Ohio, Aurora Illinois, and South Bend Indiana
No magazines with a capacity over 20-round to MD, Cleveland & Columbus Ohio, Wichita Kansas, City & County of Denver Colorado
*No pistol magazines with a capacity over 10-rounds. *NY, see State Penal Code 265.23
