And:

In my case I own two homes each approximately ten miles from each other. I own both outright, live in one, rent the other out.

In each case my taxes are vastly different. The home I live in is farther out in the suburbs, closer to larger and more expensive parks, walkways, substations for Fire and Police. My taxes are approximately $200-$300 more per annum.

Opposed to the house we rent to others, who do in fact pay me rent; however, the taxes I pay from the rent they remit is significantly less, as noted above. This portion of the city does not have a parkway anywhere close, neither does it have any public facilities in proximity, and more important the school boundaries for one of the many school districts is just across the property line (at least right now). Thus my taxes are way different.

My original point is true and significant and not so easily discounted. I have very little patience for law makers running about enforcing their rules on the populus when they should be protecting me and my rights. Anything less should be a crime, I'd like to see them pass something that addresses that! As in remove a right and do time...

there would also be consequences for declaring yourself sovereign (sp), like the city may not pick up your garbage (if they choose), likely not pay for any plumbing problems even approaching your house (which can be quite expensive if pipes rupture outside your house).

plus, you might run into some legal problems if you wanted to sell the property.

Aide, you are lucky to outright own TWO houses. You must have got some lucky breaks over the years. ;) I have 3 tenants living in my home at the moment (one is my fiance's brother only temporary), and it's still going to take us many years to pay off the mortgage. We're only 25 years old though, so I suppose we're getting to a good start. We bought the house from my grandmother for a very reasonable price for the neighborhood (212k canadian), and we could probably sell it tomorrow for 260k, or easily get AT LEAST 20k more with some renovations first (the range in our neighborhood on recent house sales is 255k-295k).

We're planning to move out in 10 years or less after doing some significant renovation (kitchen cupboards, most of the floors in the house, paint, driveway, one bathroom, eavestroughs, update fuses to breakers).

Nonsense. If they live in the city, anywhere, or in the county, anywhere, where the owners of that property pay taxes, then a portion of their rental payments do indeed go to property taxes.

If they live in tents or cars, then you are correct.
That's just thick in the head.

If they do not live in this geographic area, then they DO NOT pay for geographic taxes. While everyone in the city pays specific taxes associated with roads, trash, and county principalities, specific geographic areas have their own associated property taxes.

What I said is true. If I were to move to another area with a larger park, more water used there, pool facilities, my taxes would be different.

Are taxes in your city and county different? It sounds like property taxes in your area are somehow averaged out for everyone to pay a portion. Thus people in slum areas pay their portion just as the rich do in another?

Don't think so.
What you just wrote has absolutely NOTHING to do with my *original* quote of what you wrote, and my reply. People who live in your tax district *pay taxes*. Period, end of story. The fact that they pay different amounts has NOTHING to do with it. You said they don't pay. That's FALSE.

I pay less property tax than you. I pay less income tax than you. I pay less sales tax than you. All because I live in an area that taxes people less in all those things.

That does not mean that I pay no taxes.

Your renters pay property tax, via rent. Thus, anyone living in your tax district, like those who are most likely using and abusing the park, pay for the park. Unless they are homeless or are from out of the area.

I *suspect* that the partiers are kids with nothing better to do, whose taxpaying parents aren't doing their jobs.
