I'd hate to see your monthly fuel costs though. lol
I have a few pics of the engine bay. I'm sure we can find a way for me to send them sometime. In the mean time you'll have to be satisfied with my avatar. :)

BTW, this car is my "toy". I only drive it once in a while, not daily, so the fuel cost does not matter (although the cost of premium is scary).

I really find it funny when some people talk about how powerful their civic/neon/whatever is. I can respect anyone who works on their own car, but I always shock anyone when I give them a ride. It's amazing how that car can humble someone. ;)

Premium because you have it supercharged?

btw, there are some seriously fast Civic's and Neon's out there.
Granted they may not put out the raw HP that a good ol big block will, but they also only have half the weight to push.

You wanna see a fast stock 4 banger? Try driving a Subaru Imprezza WRX STI sometime.
I used to own a 74 Camaro with a fairly hopped up 350 in it, and the imprezza puts it to absolute shame! plus the Imprezza is all wheel drive, so it has alot less wheel slip then say a 12 bolt posi rear-end. Unless of course your running some tubbed out drag slicks on that thing.

For the most part though, you're right, most of the people who brag about how fast their little ricer is, has never experienced a real V8.

Have you ever put that thing on a 1/4 mile to see what kind of times you get?

It requires premium fuel because its compression ratio is 9.4:1 with iron heads, so using regular fuel would result in detonation due to insufficient octane.

Of course there are SOME fast civics and neons, but generally they are far less streetable than my car if they can move as quickly. I was more referring to the common driver who talks to me though, not serious racers/modders. I love having a huge heavy car though, it feels different.

I have only been on the track once so far since the engine change, and only managed 13.3 @ 107mph in a quarter mile. I could'nt get any traction at all off the line with street tires, so that really killed the huge power I have in the low RPM range. I need to get some drag radials but can't afford them this year. I have not done any tuning, because I am still working on all kinds of details to make it run better, look better, etc before I worry about obtaining optimal performance.

I expect mid 12 second quarter mile will be fairly easy to achieve with the right tires and good weather. I will have to do some serious tuning and adjustment to go any faster than that.

I'd take an Evo vs. that Impreza, KD! But I'd rather have the big block 74 miles to the fill up of the Ford GT over any high strung rally car. Even if the GT is 4 times more expensive! Because neither the Subaru nor Mitsubishi can step up and shove the atmosphere aside like the GT can. Heck, it boldly demands air to step aside all the way past 200 MPH! Subara and Mitsubishi stop far short in the mid hundred MPH.

But all the city driving that I do, my Mustang GT is quite adequate. Thanks! IF we're talking dream cars, that GT is mine.

you have a Mustang GT now? When did that happen?? lol

Indeed, that ford GT is one helluva sweet car, but it's got a killer pricetag on it! The Subaru wasn't really meant for top speed since after all it's based on the WRX Rally series car which are more for that low end acceleration and handling. If I was to ever do any racing in my life, WRX would be what I'd do!

Honestly though, those WRX STI Imprezzas have a price tag of about $35,000, which to me is way too much to be paying for a compact car like that, even if it does have oodles of power.

For the price, at about $22,000 the turbocharged Dodge Neon SRT-4 has a ton of bang for the buck, and it actually handles amazingly well for a neon. My bro-in-law bought one of those things and I drive it around on occasion. It's a blast on those windy mountain roads! It's just too bad that it's front wheel drive...

A few years ago, 2003 I guess, my Diamonte finally got to the point where it would cost more to fix it up than the value of the car was worth. So we used what was left for a trade-in and got a Mustang GT Conv. with 17k on the odo.

We looked at new ones, but they wanted $33K and didn't have any in stock. They only had stock on the clumsy slow LX models and the wickly expensive Shelby Cobra. I finally found a 2 yr old Mustang for $14k less than the new price. Seemed like a good deal to me! And it had everything that we wanted, wheels, radio, leather, colors, etc...

I initially bought it for my wife. So I never mentioned it. But it looks like we're going to "trade" cars and she primarly drive the '02 Explorer when it gets out of the shop today. And I get to trick out and keep the Mustang.

90 Gallons @ 5 miles per gallon = 450 mile trip.
90 gallons of gas @ 3.919 per gallon = $352.71

Do the kids wonder why you don't go camping each weekend?! :D

2.99 here.

Actually, I can get close to 6 if I don't run the generator.

But, in the summer heat, I've got to have the roof air running.

It would be a very handy escape or survive in a hurricane vehicle.

Welcome.

Sorry for the late reply, I've been out-of-town for some time. Read up on CotC's history and Constitution, know your rights and responsibilities, and you're 95% there. Play with Clan members, and wear the [camper] tag after your handle.

I'll forgive you for driving stuff made by the General - I was cured of that affliction some years ago. My "new" ride is a 1995 Audi S6. :)
