Putting music files on a phone

Post by Ender[CotC] »

Recently i got my hands on a mp3 file of the ff victory music that was featured in the recent movie ff advent children. I wanted to put it on my phone as a ring tone like any good fanboy would, but I'm having problems getting it there. I was wondering if any of you knew how to do something like this, or knew where i could look. I have a connector that can hook up the phone to the computer via usb, but so far it has not worked. My phone is a razor, btw.... as it was a free upgrade. Free stuff ftw. :D

Thanks for any info you have.

razor as in motorola?

moto sells their software for like $40 and trying to connect your phone to your PC without it is a challenge.

yeah, razor as in motorola.

ugh... i was trying to find a "free" way to get it on there... but perhaps i just have to find the file online and download it direct to my phone. 40 dollars is a bit much for just the one file.

thanks for the info on motorola's greediness. :D

Like a bluetooth compatible program on the laptop kinda thing? No one i know has phone stuff that current (mostly phone as old as mine) and don't have the bluetooth accessories.

Oh wait... Dark! You have one of those things right? Might you have something like this? I don't know a whole lot about this cyborg bluetooth stuff. :P

I have a bluetooth headset yes, but my laptop does not. However, I can give you this advice for how my friend and I made our own custom ringtones.

Here's what you gotta do, first you have the music you want set as your custom ringtone (most likely on your computer). I pretty sure it doesn't matter what format it's in (but MP3 is better b/c it's smaller). What you're gonna do next is send a PIX-message to your own email address. This was, as I found, the only way to get pictures off my razor and onto my computer. Anyway, the point of sending a PIX-message is that verizon organizes their messages into 2 categories: text-messages, and media-messages (pix, moves, and sound messages). Once you get the email, you now have the email address of your phone.

The next step is simple, just send an email, with your audio/custom-ringtone attached to it, to your phone. This is the tricky part b/c most cellphone companies (verizon especially) block a lot of actual emails that are sent to phones claiming them all to be spam. You just have to keep trying until it gets through. Once it does, you get a pix-message on your phone with an automatically converted audio file embedded in it that you can save to your phone and then set as a ringtone. Voila! For razor phones, this was pretty much the only way to do it for free (however I have heard, especially from Kurt, that there are websites where you can get these kinds of ringtones on your phone for free).

Try it out, see what works for you.

I've found that emails to Razrs don't usually like the attachments too much.
Instead if you know someone with a smart phone (preferrably on the same carrier as you) email it to their phone and then have them send it to you as a multimedia message.

Or... I've used bluetooth before also, but only from phone to phone.
Razrs usually suck when it comes to getting files on there... It also depends on what capabilities that your razr has, alot of the old ones wont do files at all...

Oh, and the software you need from motorola is called Mobile Phone Tools.
I think I have a "backup" copy someplace if none of the above works out for you.

Dark, I tried your method and was rejected every time. I guess my phone is just not "cool" enough, the "cool factor" being what allows me to get mp3 files onto my computer.

I guess I'll have to try something else.

find someone with a hand held. I used a windows mobile thing (kinda like a palm pilot) from compaq or hp. .. hang on a sec...
ya here, one of these type things...
http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/pro ... dheld.html

1) set up the files un your PC (google to get the right extension... IIRC my samsung was MP3 but you renamed the extension and it worked... don't remember the norelco(aka razor))
2) send them to the hand held
3) bluetooth them to the norelco

If you can't find a friend with a hand held spend 30 bucks and Ucanhazblootoofs:

then you can send them directly to the phone.

If that's too much dollars either
a) put on hobo clothes and spend the weekend begging for change
or
b) put on a bikinni and wash some cars

-----------------------------------------

side note
I 4get if norelcos have a memory card but that's another option...

To do as much transferring as I do there are a few questions I need to ask.

Carrier?
Do you have an expansion car?
When you connect your phone to your pc does it show up as a drive?

I put things on my phone all the time Movies, pix, songs, and more.

Let me know and I will do what I can to help..

well, i'm with verizon, and as for expansion card.... i don't exactly know what that is.

The cord that I tried using to hook up my phone to my computer did not come with the phone. It's actually the connector cable from an mp3 player that a friend gave me. I know it's not ideal, and it's probably the reason it didn't work, but it just happened to match the connecting port on the phone, and it had the same shape and everything, so I figured I'd give it a go. The computer pops up a window letting me know that I plugged something in and that it's having a hard time reading it. So the computer knows it's there. But, it can't seems to read it, and after a few seconds all the windows close and it doesn't seem to be doing anything.

I think it may have to deal with the wrong software driver for the phone? It did direct me to go to my carriers web site and download something, though it was ambiguous as to hat or where. After much looking, and little finding, i came across a page where they said that any music files to be put on a razor need to be midi files... which didn't help me any because I couldn't even get my computer to recognize it in the first place.

What model rZr is it? The model should be under the battery. Mine is a V3t.

Since you do not know what the expansion card is (and you have Verizon - nothing for free) then you probably do not have an expansion card. Bluetooth connection to a verizon phone is troublesome at best.

Here is a link to a expansion or MicroSD card suitable for your phone (V3t only)

My only suggestion at this point would ask around (hint Hint) for a copy of "Motorola Phone Tools"
I will look for the copy you had me hold a while back.
