are you building for gaming or for video editing or all around. you'll make some small sacrifices in some departments but if you dont care about one and really want another thats important.
i just built a gaming rig and can do everything with it like make cd's and dvd's but video editing suffered cause i used a gaming m/b and proc. i can still edit video it just takes a few seconds longer. lol
whats you flavor??

Find dell.com.
Buy the most expensive model you can afford.
Declare victory and go home.
If there is a better way to buy a PC, I have not figured it out yet.

I am totally with you on that Data!

Well... the best thing to do is to go to sites like Newegg and similar sites, look around, see what they say is the best, do some shopping research.

We have finally been freed to get back home.

Along the lines of what Dataspel said... Use Falcon-NW or Alienware to pick out a system. Get it's spec's and input them at New Egg. Get the same hardware at hundreds off the cost. Just make sure you remember your license for Windows XP/Vista!

Also, Maverick recently built a kick-arse box. Perhaps looking at his shopping list would be a great start?

The cool thing about Dell is no interest for 18 months.

If you are a 13 year old stay at home kid, barter for more money for doing much more work around the house (dishes each night, do all the laundry for x months, etc...) write it up in a contract and present it to them... then you can get this...

for $3300

Just found out through the Army I can get this system for 2900

just built a gamer for cod and the likes consisting of:

asus m/b a8n32-sli-deluxe
athalon fx57 chip
arctic freezer 64 pro heat sink
pc cooling 510 watt sli ready power supply
dual nvidia 7900 oc video cards in sli mode
3 gigs of kingston 3200 hyper X ram
(1) western digital 500gig h/d
plextor 7555a dual layer +-dvd writer/rewriter
hp dual layer +-dvd writer/rewriter w/lightscribe &
12-in-1 camera card reader.

i've over clocked it from 2.8 to almost 3.2 w/no additional cooling or voltage to the core and it runs smooth as silk. i'm going to try a lil o/c on the ram next to see what else i can get out of it with out any troubles.

also, this mother board will run a dual core fx60, if i wanted to do that, but the single core fx57 was faster for games so i stuck with it. i can always upgrade later if i want to.
