I hear George Santayana's adage: "Those who do not understand the past are destined to repeat it".

Just rereading "Winds of War " at this moment.....
North Carolina Sunday Hunting: http://www.ncdeer.net
Can't you feel our souls ignite
Shedding ever changing colours,
in the darkness of the fading night,
Like the river joins the ocean,
as the germ in a seed grows
We have finally been freed to get back home.

A totally outstanding book, or books if you include War andWarf said: Just rereading "Winds of War " at this moment.....
Remembrance, I guess. But his masterpiece was The Caine
Mutiny, one of the few books that was even better as a movie, IMHO.
I am halfway through Pat O'Brian's 20 volume opus,
and hesitating to read more, because I wish he could
write another 20 volumes.
And tonight I was watching Midway yet again.
This guy is so provocative, have you ever wondered why?
OBS and Zarkawi have the same attitude, can it be a
coincidence? And if not, to what would you attribute it?
I am interested in rational answers only; answers like
"They hate freedom" or "They must be possessed by Satan"
cut no ice with me. Anyone have an insight to offer?
What would Dr. Laura do? She would take the Roman option,
nuke them in a N.Y. minute, destroy their cities and salt
their fields, which is not the right answer at this time.
What would Jack Aubrey do? He would put an expeditionary
force into the Strait of Hormuz and pulverize any Iranian
unfortunate enough to venture into the the vicinity with
evil intent. Ahhh, maybe history can teach us a valuable
lesson here.....

Fascinating, as I just consumed the same wind swept decks yesterday.
In these older reflections from history I find solace in a clear seperation of what is right and wrong, an allegiance to a particular unified thought: that oppresion would be put down.
While I would in fact be of the opinion that they do hate freedom and are none other than Lucifer himself incarnate, I would answer this way; that each have clued in on what the rest of the world have neglected and placed into the trash: a clear sense of right and wrong.
Regardless the correctness, a particular moral code is adopted by their religion. Western decadence flaunts improper morals and endulgence, in fact immorality. More importantly in my book, the clear undercutting of what is right and wrong is evident not only in the responses from other nations, but a message is being sent that speaks only of weakness and not of strength.
In fact if strength was communicated no bully would rightfully assault, unless sick in the head. But for these understrength terrrorists who depleate their army with every suicide, victory is thought to be achievable because to them what Western eyes fail to see is weakness. The weakness of division, the weakness of infighting, the weakness of a clear lack of unity.
Look to those members from formerly allied nations in this Senate and tell me we all are on the same page. Its evident we are not just in disagreement but in polar opposition. The enemy clearly sees this and is taking advantage of it. And the more divided we become the more they win.
Imagine a Churchill met with modern day opposition to his defence of England.
There would be no England.
