Yes that is too true. Thats why several of my parts say new next to them.Neophyte wrote:I used to go this way too. Not eating wasn't so bad. We'd finally start cooking all that stuff that we bought in tin can's at least!Death_Dealer[CotC] wrote:It is easy to afford this stuff I just tell my wife and kids that they can't eat for a month because daddy needs a new toy. Then whala new computer parts.
But then I started to give Uncle Sam a non-taxable/interest-free loan each payday. Which I would collect the sum of in February each year. I learned that any money found in tax returns was a bounty redeemable on technology!

I have no idea what's in my PC... it's silver... has an ATI and a bunch of hard drives. I haven't opened it up since before I deployed and have been gaming of the laptop the whole time I have been back. Bought an LCD 19" to replace my 17" CRT... I never realized just how dark it was until I went from the laptop to it. Damn it was a crappy monitor.
I sit in this limbo because I'd rather use the LAPTOP for work and apps, but it's a Dell XPS and it rocks for gaming, plus when I go game at my buds house I just throw it ina backpack and viola. Much easier than a biggun. My Desktop is a gaming rig but it's a pain to drag around.
So my endstate will probably be having everything installed on both and having to do twice the patching and all that crap... ugh.

I'm slowly going through the SW on it and thinning it out before I wipe it and start over. I'll look at the HW at that point.
I have a server that I use also but it's getting old so I'll probably upgrade that next.... ooh, maybe I can get the huge ass compaq proliant or whatever we are tossing at work... measures like 2x2x4 with like 12 bays in the ront... that'd piss off the WLO!

I definately wouldn't want to have to listen to one in my house - my computers are bad enough as it is!

That's kind of hard to explain until you have all the media and X10 stuff running off the server. Mine sits in a hutch with the back open. I can close the doors and hide the server from eyes. But my wife and I will never agree that the Office is what she calls the "Dining room" and should have a dinner table there. Pffft!
you have some x10 stuff? maybe you can point me to some good stuff... also - do you know much (if anything) about asterisk? i was thinking of setting up an asterisk server in my house, when its done...Neophyte wrote:"Hey Reaver, why do you have an A/C unit sticking out of your hall closet?"NightReaver[CotC] wrote:That is what the garage or tool shed is for...he he well coat closet anyhowKrAzYdAvE wrote: Yeah, we have a couple of those here at my work...
