2000dpi?
how crizap, you'll never use that much resolution!
I have a logitech mx580 which has dpi changing on the fly, and even at 1600dpi its way too much to actually play with.
I usually play at 800dpi, but even at 400 I still have no problem with it.
It seems like the dpi rating of mice these days is more of a marketing tactic than it is helpful.
I would definately recommend that you pick up a func industries mouse pad to go with the mouse. I have the 1030 and I love it, even as an IT guy who's gone through craploads of mouse pads, this is the best they get.

lol
I got the same thing around 96-97
"Do you really need 2gb?"
The 7 buttons can come in handy, if you program them correctly in game. But from what I've found, the side buttons are a pain to hit when you really need them. For instance, alot of times you'll end up right or left clicking on accident just trying to hit them.

What size pad do you use, and any specific colors? They come from standard size to 11 x 17.RedBaron wrote:I second the recommendation for func pads
A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan next week. A pint of sweat, saves a gallon of blood. No poor bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making other bastards die for their country.

standard size.
I use the original surface 1030 which is dual sided... I've never used the smooth side of it though, the rougher side seems to work much better.
I imagine that the new dual sided ones are the same surfaces, and I do dig the billet aluminum one.
Oh, and mine is just a black one - shows less dirt!
When it does get dirty though, a trip to the kitchen sink with some dishwashing detergent does the trick every time!
I happened to snag mine out of an alienware box, so mine has alienware stamped across it in grey...
I've had mine for about 3 years now and it still works like new, the surface shows no wear whatsoever.
As for size, thats just a personal preference. The normal 10" x 8.5" size works fine for me. I don't think I'd want anything larger on my desk...

I've got a Func F10.s, its 14" x 11" -- which is bigger than a standard cheap mousepad, I like it cause I never fall off the edge.
the .s stands for smooth, its designed for those, like myself, who prefer a smooth surface to mouse on. This thing feels like ice, its amazing -- when i first got it I had a problem with accidentally sliding my mouse right off my desk heh but I learned quickly never to let go. They have a .r for those who want a rouger surface.
My pad has a textured surface, its black with tiny grey dots all over it, my laser mouse tracks great on it.

You can definately save some money and get the 14" -- its plenty.

i like my 8 X 11 lined paper notepad. its so much better then that round concave POS i have. i have yet to get a optical mouse. i traded my dad one crappy mouse for another crappy mouse. but his crappy mouse had a wheel so i switched him... i dunno if he has noticed yet.... doesnt matter. his laptop doesnt know what a wheel for a mouse is for anyways. hahha old school thinkpad that barely runs 95 ( he uses it in his truck when he does scrap)
but im going to get a optical mouse maybe next month... then i can control myself better when i have 20 ping
